Dr Jesús Campos

Instituto de Investigaciones Químicas-Sevilla, Spain

Jesús Campos graduated in Chemistry from the University of Seville in 2007 and did his MSc studies at the University of Manchester (2008) working with Prof. John Sutherland. He obtained his PhD in Organometallic Chemistry in the group of Prof. Ernesto Carmona, including a stay in the laboratories of Prof. M. Brookhart (North Carolina, USA) and a second MSc in Crystallography at the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo (2010). He has worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the groups of Prof. Robert H. Crabtree (Yale, USA) in the area of sustainable catalysis and Prof. Simon Aldridge (Oxford, UK) in main group chemistry. He returned to the University of Seville in 2016 as a Talentia and then Marie Curie IF researcher, obtaining in 2018 a position as a CSIC Tenured Scientist at the Institute of Chemical Research in Seville, and promoted to Research Scientist in 2022. He was awarded an ERC Starting Grant (2017) from the European Research Council to develop new cooperative catalysts for bond activation and catalysis. Since then, much of his research has focused on the design of new or unusual models of chemical cooperativity, with an emphasis on bimetallic systems, both transition metal and main groups. He is the author of about 100 scientific publications and has received several awards, including the Lilly/RSEQ Young Investigator Award, the Organometallics Distinguished Author Award, and the recent GEQO Award for Research Excellence.
